INCORPORATION:
The Collective was legally incorporated in the Province of Ontario as a non-profit
organization in the Spring of 1992. To present the public with an opportunity
to see and discuss the thematic, aesthetic and political concerns raised by
the work of lesbian and gay filmmakers.
MISSION
STATEMENT:
To provide an annual film and video festival featuring gay and lesbian works
that present images of gay and lesbian lives and issues; emphasize issues of
multicultural diversity, gender and HIV/AIDS; encourage local artists, critics
and audiences to participate in the discussion of cultural identities and aesthetics.
TARGET
AUDIENCE:
Making Scenes Festival provides an opportunity for not only gays and lesbians,
but also film buffs and gay-positive people to view culture-specific films and
videos, which have been locally curated. The program is designed to balance
the presentation of works of male and female audiences and to recognize other
subgroups within gay culture (such as gays and lesbians of colour, the bisexual
and transgendered communities, Francophones).
FUNDERS:
Making Scenes gratefully acknowledges the financial contributions of: The Canada
Council for the Arts; The Ontario Arts Council; Human Resources Development
Canada; The City of Ottawa.
