Cat Swallows Parakeet and Speaks!
Ileana Pietrobruno, director.
Canada, 1996, 16mm, 75 min.

The film confronts the surreal nature of societal attitudes toward the female body. It follows Scherherazade, a young model recovering from an ulcer operation. She becomes convinced that her inept doctor is trying to kill her and that the only way to survive is to tell him stories.

Yet, she is at a loss for words and must turn for help to Kore, a trashy tabloid-reading fellow patient. Slowly the two women grow closer, telling preposterous tales from the tabloids in order to escape from the doctor.
