This multigenerational dramatic comedy takes place in the small town of Homer, Connecticut, where Johnny Burroughs has seen three generations of gays and lesbians dealing with and overcoming the prejudices of their time. Set in the 1950's, "A Friend of Dorothy" tells the story of Dorothy Nelson who returns to Homer and is alienated after the town finds out she has been dishonorably discharged from the Navy.

"Mr. Roberts" brings us to the 1970s, where the high school swim team star Toby Anderson is harassed by his team members and his coach who suspect Toby prefers boys to girls. Toby looks for suport from his gay teacher who is forced to question his closeted apolitical position and risks losing his bid to become Principal of the high school.

In "Andy & Amos", the title couple decides to have a same sex wedding in the town's community centre. The ceremony is protested by a group of veterans, including Amos' father. The chaos increases when during the day set for the ceremony, Amos disappears and a lesbian couple asks Andy to fulfill his part of a parenting arrangement.
