From the candy coloured, cut and paste opening credits, The Iron Ladies lets us know right off the bat that we are in for some deliriously entertaining, high spirited FUN. Based on a true story of a Thai championship-winning volleyball team made up of transsexuals, transgenders and drag queens and very, very gay men, the film shows us that queers can play sports too - and look damn fabulous while doing it!
Lesbian coach Bee assembles her "dream team" and ends up with this amazing assortment of characters: Mon, the lovelorn transgender; Jun a raucous drag queen with hilariously over-supportive parents; Nong, the muscle-bound army sergeant; Pia, the transsexual stage star; Wit, the supposedly "straight" player; and Chai, the obstinately proud macho team captain. When triplets April, May and June join the team, the fun really begins. Not surprisingly, the road to success is not without its bumps.
